The twist? This is a North Korean novel. Not a propagandist tale that deifies the Kim regime, but a simple story of humanity which offers a glimpse into the ordinary, everyday lives of a family living in the modern-day DPRK. This touching tale explores the power of the recipe, and of food as a source for bonding and family connection.

Two young women both have had their lives upended by loss. This session will explore the stories and experiences of adoptee parents. Whether you are a parent yourself, thinking about becoming a parent, or are just interested in listening, this session will explore the joys and challenges of parenthood.

Participants in this session will have opportunities to talk about the connections between identity and relationships. Through panel discussions, research findings, and small group discussions, attendees will hear and share stories about all kinds of relationships and how our identities inform our experiences in relationships.

As Korean adoptees, some of us have struggled personally with mental illness or have friends or loved ones who have gone through challenges with mental health. This session will draw on the lived experience of panelists and attendees to tell their personal stories about mental illness and to talk about how the adoptee community can support and educate each other about mental health issues.

The workshop will include a background and overview of KoRoot, a guesthouse and NGO in Seoul, South Korea that seeks solutions to overseas adoption matters. Additionally, the workshop will include exercises that invite participants to reflect on and share from their personal experiences as adult adoptees. The participants will be encouraged to use these exercises to facilitate dialogues in their local communities.

This workshop will be appropriate for adoptees who are students, educators, service providers, social justice activists, and anyone else who is interested in making space for adult adoptees.

The presenter, Joy Messinger, has been involved in LGBTQ, feminist, Asian American, and adoptee organizing, writing, speaking, and presenting for nearly a decade and will share personal experiences as well as facilitate discussion on how to create safe space for all adoptees in our communities. When Jesus was crucified for the sins of the people of the world and arose from the dead on the third day, victory was won for everyone. When He returned to heaven following the resurrection, Jesus left the Holy Spirit to serve as our Comforter and Counselor.

He promised to return to earth a second time to complete His plan of salvation and take His people to heaven. Adventists are among the believers who look forward to that day.
